Pacific European Union Marine Partnership Programme - Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) Adviser

FFA is looking for a full time Monitoring, Control and Surveillance Adviser to join our Team in Honiara, Solomon Islands. The MCS Adviser role is a 2 year contract position and possible renewal for a further 2 years. Working on the Pacific European Union Marine Partnership Programme (PEUMP), you will primarily be responsible for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of regional MCS efforts, including assisting Pacific ACP countries in their efforts to reduce and eliminate IUU fishing. 

Your Key Responsibilities 

Some of your key responsibilities will include (but not limited to);

- Participating in the systematic analysis of IUU fishing activities in the region, including the establishment and maintenance of systems for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of MCS activities;

- Investigating and commissioning trials of new, cutting-edge technology in combating IUU fishing;

- Implementing a programme of legal assistance with the Legal Unit to combat IUU fishing in line with the requirements of the market states; 

 

To be successful in this role:

Your must have a tertiary qualification in law, maritime operations, or another relevant discipline, with demonstrated ability to effectively work and iaise across the traditional boundaries inf departments and organisations to achieve joint goals. This iwll be a challenginf role that requires your to identify and implemenbt cost-effective technologies to combat IUU that build on and improve existing regional systems-your analystical focus and ability to drive process and efficiency improvements will be crucial to your success. The ideal candidate will also have a minimum five years experience in the management, operation and capacity buidling of fisheries MCS systems at the national level, alongside a forward-thinking and technological mindset. Frequent travel within the region for extended period is a requirement to performing the duties of this role.
