APIA, SAMOA, WEDNESDAY 16 OCTOBER 2008: At the second meeting of Parties to the Niue Treaty on Cooperation in Fisheries Surveillance and Law Enforcement in the South Pacific Region, held yesterday, Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) members agreed to cooperate further to combat illegal fishing.

POHNPEI, FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA, SATURDAY 04 OCTOBER 2008: At the Fourth Regular Session of the Technical and Compliance Committee of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC), in Pohnpei this week, Tonga pursued its bid to get Taiwanese fishing vessel F/V Chu Huai No.638 prosecuted for illegal fishing in Tongan waters.
HONIARA, SOLOMON ISLANDS, 12 SEPTEMBER 2008: Operation Kurukuru 2008, a coordinated maritime surveillance operation in which countries cooperate to detect activities such as illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing, smuggling and people trafficking, was hosted by the Solomon Islands this week.
HONIARA, SOLOMON ISLANDS, 15 AUGUST 2008: The Maritime Unit of the Solomon Islands Police Force (SIPF) has new facilities to improve maritime surveillance targeting illegal fishing, transnational crime and search and rescue at sea, thanks to a new Operations Room was officially opened today at SIPF’s portside office.
APIA, WEDNESDAY 23 JULY 2008: The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) and the Secretariat of the South Pacific Community (SPC) coordinated legal consultations in Apia last week to review Samoa’s fisheries legislation. Samoa is the first of FFA/SPC countries to undertake a consultative process to modernize their fisheries legislation with the assistance of FFA and SPC, working together for the first time to set a benchmark for fisheries law.

TARAWA, FRIDAY 27 JUNE 2008: The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) was pleased to witness Kiribati’s signing of the Parties to the Nauru Agreement 3rd Implementing Arrangement in Tarawa today. This historic subregional arrangement provides for new measures to manage fishing in their Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) and in high seas pockets (areas of high seas bounded by the waters of member countries).
