Our Fisheries Operations Division is now looking for a Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) Advisor, Strategic Analysis to join our team on a fixed term 3-year contract working out of Honiara in the Solomon Islands. This role aims to provide oversight and strategic analysis of MCS datasets to assist with the detection of Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) fishing within the Pacific Region. This will assist the FFA Secretariat in implementing the Regional Monitoring Control and Surveillance Strategy now and into the future.

The Opportunity 

Reporting to the Director of Fisheries Operations, your primary objective will be to plan and conduct an analysis of MCS data to enable an effective and coordinated approach to the detection and management of IUU fishing. The critical responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to),

  1. Developing and providing training and support to FFA Member countries on the procedures and process around identifying IUU fishing;
  2. Coordinating the analysis, production and sharing of intelligence analysis and supporting other monitoring control and surveillance;
  3. Identifying, trialling and testing the analytical tools to improve regional intelligence analysis capacity and;
  4. Network and foster effective relationships with related intelligence agencies, relevant regional organisations, NGOs, key stakeholders, and others involved in regional analysis.

Additionally, excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for success.

Your Assets

Technical:

  • Relevant Tertiary Degree in fisheries science, fisheries management, natural resource management or similar with a minimum of 5 years direct experience in MCS Operations;
  • Demonstrated Experience with different types of fisheries data and its use in the analysis process;
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information’s Systems and other analytical tools;
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in analytics in Fisheries

  • You will receive a competitive salary package circa USD$82,984 – $115,275 (tax-free, for citizens of most countries subject to exchange rates), commensurate with your skills and experience.
  • In addition, superannuation, will be paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or an additional cash supplement. A retention incentive paid at 21% of the base salary at the completion of a 3-year contract.
  • We reimburse all reasonable medicaldental, and optical expenses for yourself and your dependents. Insurance coverage is also available for personal accidents, life, medical & repatriation;
  • Education for dependent children is reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (conditions apply). If your dependent child is studying overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year;
  • Relocation expenses will be paid, plus an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara and accommodation assistance also available.
