About the Opportunity

Our Legal Team is now looking for a full-time Legal Officer to join our team working out of Honiara, Solomon Islands. The objective of this role is to provide legal assistance and support to the Legal Advisors and wider business.

The key role of the Legal Team is to advise internal Divisions and member countries on Fisheries Law and International Law of the Sea, as well as providing employment law advice.

Your key duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Research and draft legal advice to FFA and members;
  • Assist in developing relevant training materials for legal training;
  • Provide support for training delivery, including setting up rooms and providing materials; and
  • Provide effective and efficient meeting support, including keeping minutes and coordinating briefs.

About the Benefits

The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is offering the successful candidate a competitive remuneration with a total package circa USD$61,679.00 to USD$84,714.00 per annum including allowances and Superannuation (subject to exchange rates) – TAX FREE for non-Solomon Island nationals and citizens of most countries, commensurate with skills and experience.

You will also have superannuation paid at 7.5% into either a nominated fund or as an additional cash supplement. FFA reimburses all reasonable medical, dental, and optical expenses for yourself and your dependents. Insurance coverage is also provided for personal accident, life, medical & repatriation.

Education for dependent children will be reimbursed at 75% of tuition fees (Conditions apply). If your dependent child is educated overseas, paid school travel may be available for you or your child to visit each other once a year.

Accommodation assistance is also available.

Additionally, relocation expenses will be paid, with an establishment grant paid on arrival in Honiara.  Annual airfares back to your country of repatriation will be provided, and a repatriation allowance of 2 weeks’ base salary on return to home base at the end of your contract. There is also a retention incentive of 21% of your base salary, which will be paid on the completion of your three-year contract.

On top of all this, you will have access to 6 weeks of annual leave each year, giving you plenty of time to explore this stunning part of the world!

 

You’ll be great in this role because

We seek a proactive individual with a Bachelor of Law from a tertiary organisation in one of the FFA member-nations. You will have a strong understanding of FFA, and have knowledge of Fisheries Law, and the International Law of the Sea. Two years of experience in a similar role is preferred.

Your passion for the law and the mission of FFA will be integral to your success in this role, and you will be excited to be part of a close-knit team and provide support to them.

You will have strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, and your experience preparing legal briefings and documents will help you in preparing advisory documents for FFA departments and member nations.

Please note that full vaccination against COVID-19 is mandatory for this role. Although not essential, applicants who have had their booster are preferred.
